Help us to Develop Yorkshire's only Brain Tumour Research Laboratory

Andrea's Gift has joined forces with Leeds children's cancer charity, Candlelighters to fund a new brain tumour research lab - one of only a few in the country.  The lab will be based at the Leeds Institute for Molecular Medicine (LIMM)

It is expected that the lab will develop into an internationally renowned centre of excellence and has the support of two eminent leaders in the field of cancer research.  Both Professor Peter Selby (Clinical Director LIMM) and Sir Alex Markham (Professor of Medicine University of Leeds) are former CEOs of Cancer Research UK and have been involved in this project that, in time, will bring novel treatments to brain tumour patients.

The charities agreed to combine their efforts and resources as research in this field has been underfunded and neglected for years.  Children and adults who are diagnosed with a tumour of the brain or central nervous system often don't fare as well as patients affected by other cancers or tumours.  This can be directly attributed to a lack of knowledge and research in the area.
