Story
Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues,
As I donate my body to science and embark on this amazing adventure to Everest Base Camp, I ask you to support me in this incredible study.
Xtreme Everest is a non-profit organization led by physicians and researchers from University College London, University of South Hampton and Duke University.
I don't have the statistics for the U.S., but in the UK, 1 in 5 people are fated to an ICU visit at some point in their life. Despite the incredible medical technologies we have today, there is still much to understand and improve in these critically close-to-death scenarios.
A common problem for patients in the ICU is hypoxia (lack of oxygen to vital organs). Because it is difficult to properly study ICU patients, the Xtreme Everest team takes normal people to high altitude, which simulates the critical conditions of those in intensive care. With a greater understanding of the physiologic responses under these conditions, they hope to make great advances in ICU medicine and consequently save more lives.
With the help of generous people like you, I will undergo 3 additional days of testing at Namche Bazaar (3500m), Base Camp (5300m) and Kathmandu (1300m). Data collected at altitude will be compared to the baseline sea level data.

Now, let's get to donating! Here's the "official" blurb:

I wish you all well in 2013.
