Brendan's Funny Business 2015 page

Brendan Swales is raising money for Weston Park Hospital Development Fund

Participants: I'll be one of about eight, doing standup for ten minutes each, all trying to make a buying (and probably baying) public laugh. Whether you laugh at our material, or at us, it doesn't matter, just so long as you laugh!

For one in two of us, cancer will change everything. When it does, so can we. Our services, advice, therapies and support are for you and the people close to you, helping everyone to live with and beyond cancer. The funds we raise also support vital, pioneering research and clinical trials.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'd never heard of Funny Business until one of last year's stand-ups, Martin Loxley, fingered me in the bar. Naturally I was taken aback, but thought I would sit on it for a few days and contemplate his enthusiastic delivery.

'OK, I'll do it'

'Fantastic' came the reply. Then the 'oh no what have I done feeling' descended, and once I'd said yes, it became too late to say no and now I'm at the 'seemed like a good idea at the time' stage.

But.. on the serious note, I am a recently retired GP having worked full time in the health service for 32 years and in that time have seen a great number of people and their circumstances, varying from sad to inspirational and from tragic to hilarious. The term 'laugh or cry' was particularly pertinent to our work.

Weston Park Hospital and its staff, helped us to help patients and their families. It continues to offer help and hope, so that those with a cancer diagnosis can be offered best management from this centre of excellence.

I recently lost a dear friend to cancer. He told me all the jokes I know. If I wasn't doing Funny Business this year, he would be.
