Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Surrey Air Ambulance Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

That's the boring bit about how Just Giving works!

So i'm running the 2009 London Marathon which to many of you will come as a big surprise particulalry those of you that have never really seen me as a marathon sort of man, Mars possibly but all those peanuts!!

But seriously......

On November 27th 2005 whilst out walking the dog my mum's partner Jack died very suddenly from a heart attack. It was as some of you are aware a complete shock as we'd always thought of Jack as an extremely fit man despite being in his 60's. A regular gym goer, keen gardener and advocate of a sporting lifestyle Jack was the last person that we thought this sort of thing would have happened to. The emergency services were alerted and an Air Ambulance crew attended the scene. Despite their best efforts they couldn’t help Jack but in so many situations the rapid response of the Air Ambulance is the difference between life and death. Whilst it wasn’t the Surrey Air Ambulance that attended on this occasion they are a fairly new service and like so many receive little or no support from the Government and rely heavily on charitable donations.

I had never been the most enthusiastic runner as anyone that went to school with me will testify having seen me drag my arse around the cross country course! However this changed as I got older and I began to go running with Jack who had always been a keen and accomplished runner. We spent many hours out together in Windsor Great Park and I’m sure I’ve bored you all with tales of the infamous “Long Walk”.

Ironically despite making applications to run the London Marathon Jack was never successful and so when I was fortunate with my entry I felt that the decision of which charity I should run for had to have some connection with Jack.  I’m also going to be trying to raise some cash for my cricket club Staines and Laleham which I will be doing independently of the Just Giving website. Had Jack still been with us he’d have said that I should be running for something that I loved. By running in his memory I feel that I’m doing just that.

I know that times are hard and I’m a great believer in the old saying that charity begins at home but if you can spare a few quid it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brett

Well guys it's all over and quite honestly...thank fukc for that!! It was all going pretty well until the 20 mile mark when I can only assume that a sniper with a high velocity rifle took me out in the back of the right leg.....could have been cramp but the sniper option is far more exciting! The ironic thing is that I hadn't suffered with cramp at all in my training, not a sign of it. It was pretty hot though which I'm sure the more medically minded will tell me could have been a cause. So from mile 20 it was grit my teeth, head down and get to the finish which I finally did in 4hrs 55mins, not quite as good as I would have liked but on the day and with cramp for the last 6 miles I'm pretty happy.

There's still time to donate if you haven't already, let's get it to £1500.
