Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Bruce and Father-in-Law Brian have started their epic cycle journey from Lands End to John O'Groats to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance . Joined (occassionally) by the rest of our team Jordan, Jenny and Taryn who are driving the support vehicle. Updates will be available here, so if you would like to follow our progress you can do so. The Journey Begins... Day One - Brian and Bruce began their journey with a hard and hilly 84 miles on the first day. It wasn't a great start for Bruce who discovered he had a puncture, but luckily it was just as they were getting to the campsite to join the campervan (which just happened to be at the end of the steepest hill in Camelford!) Day Two - 84 miles Day Three - The going was flatter today so they cycled 86 miles. They are currently camped between the old Severn Bridge and the new one and will reach wales tomorrow. They have to find a bike shop however as Brian has broken a spoke. Day Four - They managed an incredible 94 miles today. Day Five - Cycling though the showers they covered 71 miles and are now in a small village near Tarporley. They did stop to shelter from the rain but only ended up backing into a holly bush - ouch! Day Six - They cycled 75 miles today but had to stop as Bruce had a puncture. His bike doesn't like the rough tracks! Day Seven - They cycled 85 miles and are now just South of Carlisle in Dalston. They should reach Scotland tomorrow. Apparently Bruce isn't happy that Brian keeps finding all the hills in the Lake District although he did get up to 50 miles an hour down hill! Day Eight - 90 miles today and they have reached Scotland Day Nine - They have cycled 91 miles and are being plagued by midges! Day Ten - They cycled 78 miles but Bruce was stung on the head by a wasp that flew into his cycle helmet. To top it all off they had to wait in the rain for an hour for the campervan whilst the support team went sightseeing - and there wasn't even a bar to wait in! They are now at Fort William. Day Eleven - They cycled 94 miles. Day Twelve - They cycled 76 miles and are now in Betty Hill. They only have 53 miles to go. Day Thirteen - 1,062 miles later they finished at 3.30 this afternoon and were greeted at the finish line with Champagne! Day Fourteen - They are happy to spend the day sitting on a chair rather than a saddle!
More updates to follow... Remember - our sponsor page is still open, so if you would like to sponsor us please do so. As it looks like it will be the only form of motivation and encouragement we may get when we are struggling up the hills throughout England, Wales and Scotland. A mere 1000 miles........ Should be a breeze !! Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Essex Air Ambulance Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation, at no extra cost to you.
So if you would like to sponsor us, that would be great. And you can even leave your own sarky message too.....so what are you waiting for ??
Many Thanks. Bruce & Brian.
