Story
Thank you for visiting the Doyle family's fundraising page.
This year in memory of Evelyn ( and her wish to help others ) we have 2 main fundraising activities. Updates are highlighted in blue.
5 December 2008 - In addition to the total showing above a further £1860-50 ( plus £456-25 of Gift Aid ) has been received in cash and cheques and forwarded direct to Beechwood. The Final Total is a fantastic £6,817-45.
Both Philip and Caroline successfully completed the Great Manchester 10k run on Sunday 18th May in a highly impressive time of 1 hour and 7 minutes. In the process they have raised in excess of £1,000 towards our target.
Well done both of you and thanks to all your sponsors/supporters.
On Sunday 3 August the following 16 brave souls managed to successfully climb the 4,406 feet of Ben Nevis. Those were Brian Doyle, Philip Doyle, Caroline Doyle, John Dunlop, Pete Burns, Pete Williams, David Williams, David Clark, Robin Bowden, Jenny Rarity, Philippa Anderson, Marlyn Tripp, Tony Keary, Jack Sievwright ( age 9 ), Conor Cain and Clare Carlon.
Keith Sievwright, Christeen Sievwright, Sian Sievwright and Nikki Sievwright also made a courageous attempt to climb as high as they could. Sensibly they each knew their own limitations.
Unfortunately, Stuart Magill fell on the path injuring his knee on some rocks. This resulted in him having to limp back down around 1,000 feet, accompanied by his uncle, Andrew Sievwright. Stuart's deep disappointment was clear for everyone to see but in the end, thankfully, no major injury was suffered.
Many of the team had never been on Ben Nevis before and so their achievement must be regarded as something of a "personal best". The more experienced members of the group can also take great pride in the knowledge that they successfully met the stiff challenge that the highest mountain in the UK presents.
A very well done to all involved.
For those who may be interested in such detail, Ben Nevis is nearer to the Arctic Circle than it is to London! It is the highest mountain in the UK so it's a long way up to the top.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Beechwood Cancer Care Centre will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Please donate generously.
Many thanks for your support.
