BrightRed Bike Ride 2012 · 7 May 2012

Bright Red, a charity established to improve the lives and treatment of people in the North who are dealing with Blood Cancer. Through care, research and education we are striving to beat illnesses such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Story

At the end of 2010 my dad was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He was in hospital for a large part of the first half of 2011, though it wasn't until he came under the superb care of Prof Jackson and his team at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle that his situation began to improve. Last year's Bright Red bike ride fully paid for an Outreach Nurse to join this care team in Newcastle. The seven of us hope to help them repeat this feat. So please dig deep and donate now.

To persuade you to part with your money, we're riding the final leg of a larger ride taking place between Land's End and Newcastle. The seven of us will be forming a tight peloton around Richie Campbell (more below) over the 50 miles from Seahouses to Newcastle on Monday 7th May 2012.

The Richie Element:

The twist in all of this is the participation of Rich Campbell. Rich is a big lad and a man who knows what he likes. Cycling is something that Rich decided early on that he did not like. When Rich doesn't want to do something he just won't do it. He's never had a driving lesson, he hated golf (until he tried it), he won't commute large distances without complaint, he won't receive plans without trying to change them and he won't cut his hair. To his friends, all of these things are known and therefore there not problematic. But now we've decided to tackle him on the cycling. Persuaded by the cause no doubt, Richie met me in Green Park for his first lesson, as a 27 year-old (!), in late January. There was one notable crash, thanks to which my foldie bike won't now fold. Sadly we didn't catch this on camera but we did get some other good material. See videos attached in the gallery, I'll add more in the coming days. Hopefully Richie's brave decision to ride 50 miles in one day, as a beginner, will persuade you to chip in with a donation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE7LNJO80K0

Thanks!

PS We'll also be wearing some incredibly unattractive shirts thanks to endorsement by (look away now if you don't want to know the score) www.shiteshirts.com
