When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission: to grant the Wishes of children living with a life threatening illness. Wishes have the power to transform the lives of children and families. Since 1990, we have proudly granted over 19,000 Wishes across the UK. We'd love you to be part of the magic!

Story

When You Wish Upon a Star are delighted to be working with The Brit Writers' Awards Unpublished 2010 – the UK’s biggest ever competition for unpublished authors and pupils from Grace Academy in Coventry are aiming to smash the Guinness World Record for the most entries to a writing competition.

Thank you if you have already submitted your wish by visiting www.BritWriters.co.uk. If you would like to make a donation to help the special Wishes of children suffering from life threatening illnesses come true please make your donation via this Justgiving page.

Toni of the Grace Academy explains more, "By asking people to write down their wishes we want to get them communicating and get them thinking about what they want for the future. Not just for themselves but for the whole of their communities and even the wider world.

We are hoping to promote reading and writing in a creative way. It’s a different way of letting people of all ages know that reading and writing can be fun.”

A target of one million wishes has been set in an attempt to beat the current Guinness Book World Record.

Anyone can support the world record bid and enter the project by writing down 100 to 150 words outlining their wish. More details can be found at www.BritWriters.co.uk

The awards are open to anyone of any age. There are thousands of school children taking part but also parents and grandparents – the competition is open to all.”

The submission deadline for the Brit Writers Awards is 26 February – entrants can submit poems and songs as well as stories, there will be winners in each category and a cash prize of £10,000 for the overall winner.. To find out more please visit www.BritWriters.co.uk

Thank you for making a donation which will help When You Wish Upon a Star to continue granting the Wishes of the most incredibly brave and courageous children suffering from life threating illnesses across the UK.
