Story
There will be few people who do not know of someone who has contracted cancer. Indeed with the numbers increasing year on year, you may yourself have cancer or be fortunate enough to have recovered from it. That is so in my case.
Unfortunately my mother was not so lucky and she died on 1 April this year following two and a half years of treatment for ovarian cancer.
Despite that, the treatment she chose enabled her to achieve a good quality of life - at 84 years old she was still able to walk 5 miles just days before she passed away. Her choice was based on the kind of information readily available from sources such as CancerBACUP. Knowledge gives you control and helps you plan a strategy that not only gives you the best chance of beating this condition but also one which suits your way of life.
I know CancerBACUP provides an invaluable service and that's why I took part in the Great North Run this year to raise money for them.
Packed in amongst 50,000 other lunatics, Brian and I managed to finish in just under 2 hours (1 min 25 secs to spare!). Our 8250 finishing position put us in the top 20% - surprisingly enough!!! And I even managed to achieve a bit of a tan. Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online - I am still collecting until the middle of November. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: CancerBACUP will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
