My friend and colleague Darryl Thomas has close links with AGE CYMRU through his mother. Through him I realise the great work they do and realise the uphill struggle they face to raise money so that this work can continue.

The London Marathon has always been on my "things I'd love to do list" so when Darryl approached me with the idea of participating in 2013 and raising money for Age Cymru at the same time I jumped at the chance.

We train regularly to keep fit enough for our jobs as Police officers and have taken part in a few charity races but to commit 4 months of our lives to the hard training needed for the Marathon is going to be a huge challenge. Anybody that knows me we tell you that I'm not exactly a natural runner and that I do like my little luxuries, red wine and chocolate being just two of many.

I have decided to throw myself fully into the training and not only start getting the miles under my belt but also to give up all those little luxuries so that I can hopefully complete the Marathon and be able to help a very worthy cause in doing so.

Both myself and Darryl will post regular updates of how our training is doing and if at all you feel sorry for us as we plod along the dark streets through the bleak winter months then please donate something to help it all feel worth while
