My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

We have decided to undertake the London to Paris Cycle on 13-17th June 2007 in memory of our Mum, Linda, who died of pancreatic cancer early 2006. We could not think of a better way to pay tribute to Mum than to support this great cause.

This will certainly be a challenge for all of us but does not come close to the worthiness of the Pancreatic Cancer Research charity (http://www.pcrf.org.uk/). Not only does it raise awareness of the disease but also supports the much needed research into its detection and treatment. The need for research into this cancer is most certainly reflected in the fact that forty years ago, 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more. And astonishingly today this figure remains unchanged. Of course this is undoubtedly due to it being one of the most aggressive types of common cancers, but the lack of research funds specifically for this particular form of cancer contributes to this statistic. Indeed a recent report from a top international cancer meeting (ASCO 2006) revealed that ‘pancreatic cancer studies make up approximately a quarter of the number of studies being presented on breast and prostate cancers combined’. However in the past few years, there has been a positive trend in the growing interest in pancreatic cancer from researchers, which will undoubtedly continue to grow as a direct result of increased funds from charities such as The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (established 2004).

The London to Paris cycle will consist of a 4 day cycle of between 70-80 miles per day! We will need all of the training and gel saddles we can find but you can help by digging deep and sponsoring us! We will also be organizing some fundraising events throughout the coming months and will post information about these on this site – so keep checking for details.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us as the charity, Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you and that 's a good thing.

Please donate generously,

 Thanks,

 Linda, Karen, Vanessa & Clodagh.

Also joining our team is Louise des Longrais, who too is supporting Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund - http://www.justgiving.com/louisedeslongrais
