Round the Island Race 2009 · 20 June 2009 ·

Community Hospice provides free end of life care to anyone living with a terminal illness in Greenwich and Bexley, supporting around 3,000 people each year. Our goal is to help everyone we care for to approach death in the way that suits their values, beliefs and lifestyle.

Story

STOP PRESS - We completed the race in 12 hours and 7 seconds.  Thank you very much for your support.

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.  Round the Island Race is one of the world’s largest and most famous yacht races, with over 1,800 boats and 16,000 competitors expected.

The Objective - To sail round the Isle of Wight in the quickest time possible and raise much needed funds for the Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice.

The Boat - 'Monocle' is a 33 foot Legend Yacht, built in 2004 at Portland.

The Crew - 'Team Monocle' consists of father, son, daughter and grandson.  We have sailed in this event on 3 previous occasions.

Your Participation - We are asking all donors/sponsors to estimate how long it will take us to complete the race.  The Start/ Finish Line is at Cowes.

The Prize - A cruise on the river Thames for the person who predicts the time nearest to our actual elapsed race time, as posted on the  http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk web site.  The winner will be notified.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many thanks for your support.
