Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I have worked for MND Scotland for over 8 years and I have the greatest respect for people living with Motor Neurone Disease who often have to cope with the daily challenges of progressive paralysis, impaired speech and difficulty eating and drinking.

I have decided to raise money for the charity by taking part in Scotland's largest cycling event - the Caledonia Etape. I'll be part of over 3,000 participants doing a circular 81 mile route starting and finishing at Pitlochry. The course is a cyclists dream - beautiful winding roads through forest and along the banks of Loch Rannoch. Thigh splitting, lung bursting climbs up Schehalion and trecherous, adrenaline pumping descents. My challenge is two fold - I hope to complete the course in around 5 hours and also quit smoking as part of my training plan. I don't know which will be the greatest challenge.

Motor Neurone Disease and MND

There are over 300 cases of Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland . This year, more than 120 people will be diagnosed with this illness. It can cause paralysis, loss of speech, and difficulty eating and drinking. Life expectancy is on average 14 months after diagnosis. MND is a fatal illness with no cure.

MND Scotland is the only Scottish charity committed to improving the lives of people affected by Motor Neurone Disease including people with MND, families, carers and health and social care professionals. It provides care, information, education and emotional support. The charity also funds quality research to help work toward finding a cause and cure for the illness.
