Madagascar: Paradise…or poverty?

Take a moment to imagine Madagascar off the south east coast of Africa… a tropical island paradise, teeming with plant and animal life that exists nowhere else on earth.  This may be paradise, but the sad truth is that up to 70% of Malagasy people struggle to survive on no more than 50 pence a day.

Add to this the Spiritual poverty that people are engulfed by.  Superstitious practices permeate the church, often unchallenged.  The light of the Gospel needs to shine brightly, in the power of Christ, to eliminate this spiritual confusion. It is vital that people are helped and challenged to engage with the Bible. This is how the truth of the Gospel may penetrate into people’s hearts, replacing superstition.

Reaching the Lost…
The Malagasy Bible Society is responding to the material and spiritual poverty in their country by running a 3-year programme to make the Bible available to people who simply cannot afford to buy it. They have plans to produce 90,000 subsidised Bibles and 709,000 free selections to encourage the daily reading of God’s Word.  God has given many Malagasy people an interest; we must pray in faith that He will also give them understanding.

We would ask you to pray that:
- Believers receiving their own Bible will grow in faith and understanding so that superstition will be eradicated.
- People who have not yet come to know Christ will accept Him as their Saviour and be open to learning from His Word.
- Scripture will reach people in the poorest and more remote areas of the country.

Please Give as you are able, so that others may have the gift of God’s Word that we enjoy.

Thanks so much for your support, we would not be able to spread the word without you!

Sincerely,

John
