Story
The time has come to do something pretty big and pretty special for a charity close to our hearts – Mind. So we’ve decided to jump out of a plane and skydive together on the 22nd of November!! (Good old British weather permitting!)
Mind was founded over 68 years ago as the National Association of Mental Health. There are over 180 local ‘Mind’ associations across the country that provide services such as supported housing, support schemes, care homes, drop-in centres and self-help support groups. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding, saying ‘we won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect’.
Mental illness is special to each of us in separate but very similar ways – Whether it may have affected us personally or via family and friends, it has touched each of us in very dark and difficult times. Mental illness is only recently being more and more talked about due to media and famous faces struggling and sometimes not seeking help with terrible consequences. Unfortunately we experienced such after losing a beautiful friend just over 5 years ago and words cannot express the sadness, pain and frustration of not being there or able to help, but coming to terms with the feelings and thoughts that she must have gone through at that time, not being able to speak or see a way out.
Mental illness can affect anyone with an addiction, dealing with abuse, going through depression, coping with phobias and many, many other disorders – each creating it’s own individual problems, creating a combination of feelings, actions and thoughts. Those that struggle with these issues can find it very difficult to talk to others or even admit to themselves that they are struggling…this is where Mind comes in, their website gives endless advice, tips, leaflets, stories, a helpline and much more to help those dealing with a variety of issues.
Please sponsor us to raise money for Mind and help those throughout the country struggling and see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
