Story

Kate Bush once re-told her 1977 marathon story in a song.

"Running up that Hill" was a song of torment and pain. It explains how, at 5 miles, the Lucozade had simply run out. She felt unable to go on but managed to siphon off her body sweat and urine into a small boys hat and continued the race. She finished in 2nd place just slightly behind Duran Duran lead singer, Simon le Bon. Some still say it was the closest finish in London Marathon history. She managed to overtake a rhino on the final corner and then only a photo finish seperated her from Le Bon.

While I cannot promise such tales of bravery and adversary I shall be running Londons fair race for the 5th time and hoping my lucky Marathon pants see me through. I'm hoping to finish the race in just under 4 hours (with the wind behind me and a stunning blonde in front) and with all toenails intact for a change. If i do happen to lose any I shall be putting my blackened toenails on ebay to raise additional cash ... shall we say £1 per toenail and £3 for the big toenail?

This year i'm running for fun but have decided to see if i can raise a little cash towards valued cancer research. Please, please give as much as possible. Macmillan Cancer is a fantastic charity and they really do need all the help, cash and support they can get. Please check out their website for more info http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx

I am also blogging and would appreciate it if you could follow my progress over the next 3 months (please also send the link to friends etc). The site is http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/psmith/london-marathon-2011-7/

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you

http://www.justgiving.com/buffypain
