Story

22nd April 2012... Diagnosed April 3rd 2007 (the day before my birthday). Major surgery October 2007 including removal of belly-button, gallbladder, omentum, and 90 minutes of heated chemotherapy washed through my abdomen as I was closed up. June 2009, mass removed from right abdominal wall, 10cm circular section of abdominal wall removed completely, replaced with pad and gauze 'plug'. October 2009, 6 months of oral chemotherapy started (not fun over Christmas). Result? A 13 inch scar from breastbone to pelvis, a 7 inch lateral scar from midline to right side across waistline. Cancer cleared - but not cured... Today I'm running the London Marathon - what will you be doing?

Just 5 days to go now, done everything I can to be ready for Sunday. Training has been excellent, just need to get it right on the day now. Thanks so very much to everyone who has donated so far, it means so very much. Just need a few more pennies now to reach my goal...

Training still going well, despite being off my feet for a week with Viral Labrynthitis. Longest runs done, just 2 more weeks of training before I start to taper. Had bloods done on Monday to check tumour markers - always a timely reminder that I'm still just watching and waiting...

Despite not being able to run last week due to an attack of viral labrynthitis, I've managed a 21 mile run (very messy) on Tuesday straight after work and I'm up and out before 6am today for a 5.4 mile run before most people even wake up! Mad, dedicated, insane - you decide, but 2 more people donated last night, so I'm nearly a third of the way to my target now, and still pushing...

Christies have now extended my period between scans to 12 months, so an eased mind can focus more on training. While I may never be free from this dreaded disease at least for now I am clear and able to keep fit and raise money to support the team who have kept me free from Cancer thus far so they can help those who follow the same path in the future...

After having to withdraw in 2011 due to injury, I am now 12 weeks away from finally running the London Marathon! A solid training base and a very successful half marathon behind me I am now focusing on getting to marathon-fit for April 22nd. Hotel booked, train tickets have arrived, it's a GO Houston!

After weeks of painful physiotherapy, and no running, and after much soul-searching, I have had to accept defeat and withdraw from this years London Marathon (not an easy decision to make). I will use the deferred entry to run in next years race - Olympic year - so I have extended my page by 12 months to reflect that fact. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, the money will still go to the Christie Hospitals Peritoneal Tumour Service, and I will work just as hard to ensure I make the 2012 London Marathon an even more memorable day.

Training not going so well at the moment - suffering with shinsplints! No running, sore legs and physiotherapy... But then a little thing like this won't deter me...

In April 2007 I was told by a consultant that I had Cancer; a rare and potentially terminal abdominal Cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei or PMP. I was refered to The Christie Hospital in Manchester which is 1 of only 2 centres in the UK to treat the disease. My consultant at Christies told me that either faced abdominal surgery including heated chemotherapy or that I had 48 months to live - I took the surgery option. I have since endured 2 rounds of major surgery with extended recovery, a 2nd diagnosis of a futher (related) Cancer, 6 months of chemotherapy and a barrage of tests, scans and procedures to ensure I stay Cancer free for the time being.

So 48 months after my diagnosis I hope to be standing at the starting line of the greatest Marathon in the world, The Virgin London Marathon, to face the challenge of 26.2 miles and once again prove my survival despite my Cancer. I hope that every step on that run raises money for the Peritoneal Tumour Service at Chisties to support their fight against this rare and insidious disease. It will be the first of 3 major challenges I will be undertaking in 3 months, with the Edinburgh Marathon in May and a run of 45 miles in June on the Walk across Wales event held by Newtown Rotary Club.

You can help - you can sponsor me and make every step taken more valuable, and give me even more reason to cross the finish line 26.2 miles ahead.

So please dig deep and donate now.
