Tour of the Peak · 24 October 2009

Advocates for International Development ("A4ID") draws together the skills and expertise of the legal profession to combat poverty and inequality of opportunity worldwide. A4ID works to build the capacity and resources of developing countries/development NGOs, promoting awareness of social, economic and legal issues that affect development and stifle opportunity.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have entered the 64 mile long Tour of the Peak bike ride to raise money for Advocates for International Development, an organisation which I have supported since its inception.

Advocates for International Development (http://www.a4id.org/default.aspx) uses legal skills to champion the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The MDGs represent time-bound and measurable targets for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women. A4ID projects include: providing advice on current or proposed legislation; building the capacity of national trade negotiation teams to assist in their participation in WTO, bilateral and multilateral talks; assisting tribal peoples in the determination of their land rights; and providing technical advice on the terms and structures of debt and trade agreements.

The Tour of the Peak (http://www.kilotogo.com/index.php?option=event_detail&event_id=6) is set in the Peak District (Derbyshire, Cheshire and West Yorkshire). They say it's tough up North and this ride proves the point. The ride starts from the High Peak's flagship leisure facility in Chapel-en-le-Frith and over the 64 mile length of the ride, takes in the infamous Cat and Fiddle Road and the notoriously steep Winnats Pass.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure, so please dig deep, donate now and help to support a really worthwhile charity.
