The Caledonian Bike Challenge · 31 May 2010

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

We have gathered an intrepid group of motorbike enthusiasts together with the intention of riding around the entire coastal route of Scotland in five days. The arduous route will cover 1592 miles including some of the most difficult, remote roads in the UK and will include the further Northern, Southern, Easterly and Westerly points in Scotland. The challenge will be mentally and physically demanding in order for us to complete the route in only 5 days.

Of course we’re doing this for a particular reason. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children (known as Yorkhill Hospital) in Glasgow has 266 inpatient beds, 12 daycase beds, and handles approximately 90,000 out-patients, 15,000 in-patients, 7,300 daycases and 35,000 A&E attendances every year. The hospital provides care for newborn babies right up to children around 13 years of age.

The hospital is truly an amazing place and we have the chance to help save many children’s lives with your help. We want to raise £20,000 for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation, the charity set up to funraise for essential equipment and services which fall outwith the NHS provisions. It’s a lot of money to raise but I’m sure you will realise how amazing it will be to be able to present the hospital with the funds.
