The walk is called the Cambrian way and covers about 285 miles over most of Wales's major peaks. The height gain is circa 60,000 feet and it is through some of the remotest parts of Wales. The route starts in Cardiff and then up through the valleys into the Brecon beacons and Black mountains. I will have the pleasure of walking up Lord Hereford's knob (interesting name for a mountain). The route crosses the Camarthen Vans and then heads north through the remotest part of Wales (no doubt full of wind farms) to Cadair Idris. The last stage from Barmouth across the Rhinogs to the Snowdonia range is probably the hardest by which stage I will have hoped to have walked myself fitter. The last three days cross Wales' three highest mountains with the finish on the North Wales coast. www.cambrianway.org.uk

The serious bit; Last year some close friends' nearly 2 year old son died suddenly and unexpectedly. Despite exhaustive research, lasting over six months, no reason could be found and a death certificate was issued giving sudden infant death syndrome as the cause. I am therefore undertaking this walk to raise money for FSID (the Foundation into the study of infant deaths). The charity can't bring children back, but I was stunned to find out that, since 1991, it had managed to reduce these types of deaths by 70% (about 19,000 babies and young children). Statistics are all very well, but I hope you will agree that even one life saved is without value. www.fsid.org.uk

Some may be pleased at that concept. I just so happen to be the person organising it but without the help of the following:-

James Askham, John Beirne, Peter Foskett, David Edwards, Duncan Goodyear, Dave Maurice, David Smail, Duncan Tate, Claire Charles, Justin Hill and Charles Henriques I don’t think we would succeed.
