Cambridge to Rome · 5 February 2009

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

In order to raise money for TCT, we will be cycling from Cambridge to Rome on a tandem, which will through England, France, Switzerland (yes, that means the Alps) and finally Italy.

After being diagnosed with Cancer last Christmas at the age of 18, I had to spend two and a half months in hospital. I had the choice between the Children's and the Adult's ward - a hard choice - but I went ahead to stay in the Adult ward as I didn't want to see such young going through this traumatic experience. However, most of the people in the ward were significantly older than me, so I felt a little isolated: so I have decided to help raise to fund the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Addenbrookes for ages 13-22.

Seeing my friend suffer from Cancer was obviously very hard for me, so when the idea arose to do raise money for a good cause of this nature, I couldn't say no. So now I've been roped into cycling half way across Europe - and I now have to give up the beer and crisps!
