For 2009 Cambridge Triathlon Club have chosen the Parkinson's Disease Society as their favoured charity.
.
As many of you know, one of our long term members, Dave Eastman, has been suffering from this debilitating disease for several years, but he refuses to let it beat him and in 2009 Dave and the club have devised the "Any Old Iron Man" long distance “swim bike run” triathlon challenge.
Open to anyone, you will have from 1st to 31st May 2009 to cover the classic long distance Triathlon distances
Swim 2.4 mile (3.86Km) // Bike 112 miles (180.24Km) // Run 26.2 miles (42.16Km)
Any Old Iron Man is to be completed in stages of any distance in any order to suit the individual athlete's abilities, available time and family commitments.
We will recommend some OPTIONAL events to start and finish so you have the chance to stand side-by-side with someone who refuses to be beaten by Parkinson’s, smiling through gritted teeth and battling through a long distance triathlon just like the rest of us. Do something amazing in May!
To join in just make a £10 direct donation to Parkinsons Disease on this website, type JOIN in the comments section. If asked "is this for an event?" hit "no" as there is no specific event but it is a personal challenge during May.
.
Encourage your friends to donate at the website to support you.
See www.anyoldironman.co.uk for event details, photos, blogs.
.
So if you are looking for a charity please consider fund raising for Parkinson's Disease and supporting Dave. All the money will go specifically towards supporting Parkinsons Specialist Nurses who are vital to anyone with Parkinson's to keep mind and body in the best shape possible.
