Story

It’s great to have been offered the opportunity to volunteer at Liberty College in Kasese, Uganda for 6 months. It’s amazing to see how people are living and learning here - most of our students come from the surrounding villages, some without access to electricity and running water.

The college was started in 2004 with initially 6 students and has now grown to over 160!! It caters for post-secondary school students and underprivileged adults in the community.

Liberty College currently has 5 second-hand computers and 10 typewriters. With the fast growing number of students, the existing computer lab can't cope with everyone here. The majority of our students have never used a computer before, so in addition to the computer studies course, all our other courses have some computer tuition as well.

This fundraising drive is about increasing the number of computers in the computer lab. We estimate that with a target of £1500, we can acquire 10 more computers for the college. This would really help all our students to learn hands on computer skills. Your donations mean that we'll be able to purchase the computers for the lab!

As an added incentive for the fundraising drive, I will shave my hair off if we reach the target of £1500. I’m pretty sure that people won’t recognise me here once the hair is gone and the sooner I can shave it off the better, as it's so hot here!

We are affiliated with SUFA (Stand Up For Africa) which has kindly agreed to host this Just Giving page. So whether you want to help add computers to the lab or see me shave my hair off, then please dig deep and help a worthy cause!!
