My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
I've updated my page so it is for me and my Grandad... Willie, Bill, Uncle William, Mr Young, Wullie fae the Co Band, Willie from Bellshill Salvation Army etc etc. Total raised on this page counts towards our JOINT target.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
At the end of October I'm flying out to Nepal with my Grandad, my friend Ailsa from school and around 15 other people to spend 17 days trekking through the foothills of the Himalaya in the hope of reaching Everest Base Camp - a mere 17,500 feet above sea level.
Each of us needs to raise at least £3,500 in sponsorship. Obviously a large chunk of this has to go to Community Action Treks to pay for flights and the actual costs of the trek but Community Action Treks is a "not for profit" travel company who covenant their profits to their charity Community Action Nepal.
Set up 20 years ago by Doug Scott CBE - the first British climber to summit Everest - Community Action Nepal has built schools, clinics, aid posts, installed fresh water systems and work tirelessly to improve the living and working conditions of sherpas, their families and communities. They are very environmentally aware and have won several awards, including the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Award. Nepal is the poorest country outside Africa and this work is really essential.
This particular trek is also to raise funds for Who Cares? Scotland - offering advocacy and support for children in care. I am really interested in their work and want to support the charity as much as I can.
One of Community Action Treks' other directors is Jeff Frew . . . and Jeff just happens to be my friend Ailsa's Dad, so we're really lucky to have an expert on our doorstep to help with training and advice. This will be Jeff's 17th trip to Everest Base Camp.
During the year the three of us (me, Grandad and Ailsa) will be organising events and sponsored activities, as well as working o or own to raise money. We don't want to ask for something-for-nothing but thought that this page may make donating easier for many people, so we hope you'll be willing to help.
Please note that although this JustGiving page is for Who Cares? Scotland, the money raised is shared with Community Action Nepal through paying Community Action Treks for the trip.
Please watch for news of up-and-coming events which you can help with. If you live too far away to come along to events, then maybe you would still be able to support by sponsoring us in other activities.
Thank-you and keep in touch!
Cameron

We've done it! We've hit our target of £7000. Thanks to everyone for the generous support; we really appreciate it. It's a huge amount which both charities will benefit from. Fundraising is officially over; any more donations will go directly to the charities. Cameron & Willie x
Our half of the proceeds from "18,190ft" Gig was £350. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a great night! Thanks also to all the acts who took part and the friends and family who helped backstage! x
Thanks to Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Jim Murphy for another donation of £20!
Thanks to Mrs. Male from my school who donated £20. Really kind of you to make a personal donation.
Thanks to my Great Great Aunt Rae from Australia for the very generous donation of £200! Aunt Rae is my Great Grandpa's sister.

Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland's leading national independent advocacy organisation working with children and young people (up to age 25) in care in Scotland. We provide a wide range of services to young people including advocacy, advice, information and support. We also consult and listen to young people, campaign for positive change, help policy makers hear the views of young people, bring young people together and include them in the governance of the organisation. By selecting Who Cares? Scotland you are helping us to continue to make a positive change to the lives of Scotland's young people who are or have been looked after and accommodated away from home.
