Story

In August 2010 I got a phone call that totally changed my outlook on life. I was told that my dear friend had died in Childbirth after delivering her twins 10 weeks early by cesarean. Having two children myself the sense of loss and emotion I felt for her never being able to hold the babies she had so carefully carried was overwhelming. I think it can be taken for granted as so many people successfully have children, however there are huge risks that are associated with pregnancy and childbirth.

The twins were totally unaware of the tragedy that was around them as they fought their own battle (very successfully) and are lucky enough to be surrounded by the love and strength from the father and friends and family. Although Delphine was in an excellent hospital with plenty of resources there are many places where these resources aren't available.

I researched a charity that I felt would help those families, mothers & babies that needed the help and support and came across MCAI who are a charity that work in countries where there is extreme poverty.

Every day more then 1000 women die in pregnancy or childbirth

MCAI improve the quality of care during pregnancy and childbirth, for women, for newborns and for children.

It costs just £90 to provide a midwife with a complete kit to help deliver a baby. I hope that I can raise enough money to help make a difference.

I have never run a half marathon or ever attempted this distance believe me it will be a challenge!
