THE GEORGE FREWER CELEBRATION SWEEPSTAKE CHARITY RACE
Thursday 3rd July 2008
Last summer my brother Tom’s great friend George died in a tragic accident whilst on holiday. Tom and George both shared a passion for racing and had hoped to spend part of their Gap year together exploring racing abroad.
The above race is being held in George’s memory at Newbury Racecourse before the evening’s race meeting and his parents had invited Tom and other friends to ride in it. However, my brother is 6’4” and 12 stone plus due to being out of action from a schooling fall in the spring – so I am stepping into his shoes to help raise money for the Animal Health Trust.
I am now hard at work – up at dawn, not my best time of day, and off to ride out my intended ride “Very Green” at Anabel King’s yard before going to work. It has had it’s exciting moments including landing on the bonnet of a rather unamused lady’s car!
The Animal Health Trust is an independent charity located just outside Newmarket which has been improving animal health for over half a century. It employs many scientists, vets and support workers researching into diagnosing and treating diseases of companion animals. It has two clinics, one for horses and one for cats and dogs, providing professional referral services to the veterinary profession. The trust receives no government funding and is heavily dependent on generous donations and grants to keep it in operation at the forefront of veterinary progress.
I hope you can help me to raise money for this worthy cause in George’s memory, any donations small or large will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you so much
