A group of 21 doctors, nurses, patients and staff from the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre, along with some leading local business figures, are taking on a 1,000km cycle the length of Spain in a bid to raise £50,000 for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

McQuillan, Paul Nolan, Suzanne Nolan, Dr Ciaran Rafferty, Larry Sheeran, Paul Spring, Betty Stephens, Tony Stephens, Dr David Stewart, Mr Mark Taylor and Mr Trevor Thompson.The intrepid group, which is made up of some of the most recognisable faces in medicine, research and business, are taking on the famous silver route of the Camino trek in Spain. The ten day expedition will start in Seville on the 14th September, from whence nine of the group will cycle north to Salamanca. There they will be joined by the rest of the group to pedal north towards the finish line in Santiago. To complete the challenge in 10 days, the group will have to average approximately 100km a day and contend with humidity, altitude and some tough mountains. While many of the group are seasoned cyclists with several long distance endurance challenges to their name, others have just taken up cycling this year and this will be the first cycling event that they have taken part in.
Friends of the Cancer Centre is based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital. The charity works to support cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland. All funds raised will go towards funding the charity's life-saving and life-changing projects.
