Story

Over the last year, the families of Bridgetown have spent a lot of time in the local area with so many enjoying the River Avon and the beauty of the waterfowl, particularly the swans. It has not gone unnoticed the services of the team at Swan Rescue SUA that have been needed, with all of us having spotted a swan on the back of a bike being pushed by Cyril Bennis through town or having tagged Cyril to come and rescue any number of waterfowl for so many different reasons. So the PTA had an idea to pay homage to the swan in our school's logo and on the river in our backyard while also raising funds for the great work at Swan Rescue SUA.

We were so fortunate to have two artists provide beautiful & unique artwork for this fundraising activity, let's introduce them!

Lynne Hampson creates bespoke stained-glass windows and wall/window hangings in her home studio - each unique piece is designed & produced using traditional leaded stained-glass window techniques, blending traditionally manufactured new glass with reclaimed Victorian hand-made glass. She had the amazing good fortune to learn traditional stained-glass window techniques from Jamal Rafay, a renowned stained-glass maker and restorer, based in Birmingham.

You can find Lynne on Instagram @ the_stained_glass_house

Our second artist, Naomi Hands-Smith, creates beautiful illustrations inspired by the swans who grace the River Avon - the keepers of the river. The prints that Naomi has provided to us are giclée print on premium 310gsm, cold pressed grain paper and are presented in a gift mount and cellophane wrapped. Naomi produces a wide variety of work and all of it work captures the river in many different ways. You can find Naomi at River Swan of Avon - Etsy and at riverswanofavon - Instagram

About the charity

As a PTA we raise funds through a variety of events for children & families in our area. Those funds are then invested in long term enhancements such as replacing old playground equipment with durable & multi-use solutions to installing an external defibrillator for the benefit of our community.
