The Nick Mowl Cup will be held in memory of popular local footballer and coach Nick Mowl, who died by suicide two years ago.

The tournament will be held at one of his former clubs Solihull Moors on Monday 6 May and will help raise funds for The Kaleidoscope Plus Group - www.kaleidoscopeplus.org.uk - who will use the money to help establish a Suicide Prevention Text Line service.

The money raised will help them employ a co-ordinator and a text service operator who will lead in the management and co-ordination of a national text service which will keep individuals who are experiencing suicidal thoughts safe from harm.

The event, will comprise of open age six-a-side tournament as well as contests for U11s, and U13s, plus a family fun day.

Many former local professionals are planning to play on the day, which starts at 10am.

The inaugural tournament was organised by Blues Under-23s coach Richard Beale, a close friend of Nick, who played local non-league football and also coached in the Blues and Coventry City Academies and was a roaring success, with more than £10,000 raised.

Richard said: To have such high profile figures from all the leading West Midlands clubs in one room really shows what an incredible important subject mental ill health and suicide is to so many people.

I can openly admit before Nick did what he did I didnt really no anything about it.

I certainly no a lot more now and people just need to talk and not feel ashamed to do so.

If we can help prevent one person doing what Nick did it will be a huge success.
