Story

Giselle is a 12-month-old, healthy and happy dog. Theres just one problem. Due to a horrific accident, she only has one fully working leg. The team at Floris Friends Rescue, has taken on its most complex challenge to date, to get her another chance at life. But we really need your help.

Giselle was hit by a car and left laid in severe pain at the side of the road for a number of days, until someone found her and alerted someone. She had suffered a complete spinal break, and due to the time she was left at the roadside, her spine had fused together and left her completely paralysed. This has left her needing a prosthetic for her damaged front leg and a four-wheel cart (quad) to support herself and get her mobility back.

Giselle has now been assessed by an orthopaedic specialist and a prosthetic specialist and has been confirmed as a good candidate for double hind leg amputation and a distal limb prosthetic. Surgery and prosthesis coupled with a quad wheelchair will ensure Giselle can 100% become mobile again and be able to go for walks like a regular dog, be mobile around the home and start enjoying life outside just like any other dog. It is going to be a long process but both specialists are confident this is going to be the solution and will ensure a life time of happiness for her. Giselle is in foster with our founder Natalia, who specialises in disabled dog rehabilitation and is going to be caring for her throughout the entire process until she is fit and well.

The total cost is estimated to be £5k, which is a huge amount for such a small charity and therefore, the Flori`s team are asking the public for help to raise the funds and show Giselle, that not everyone will turn their backs on her.

Below is a breakdown of what is included in the £5k cost.

Custom made, fibreglass cast, distal limb prosthetic + fitting and re adjustments after 8 weeks

X-Rays for distal limb prosthetic

Materials for casting the prosthetic

Custom made quad wheelchair shipped from a specialist firm in America

Casting of the prosthetic by a veterinary professional

Water therapy rehabilitation

Specialist equipment in recovery

The cost of Giselles double amputation has already been covered and is therefore not included in this breakdown.

Regular updates of Giselles journey will be posted in the fundraiser.

Giselle loves playing with her toys and bones, just like any other dog and she is very affectionate. Once weve got her the help she needs, she will be found a forever family that can give her the love that she deserves and a whole new chance at life. Please help her if you can. We really appreciate the time you have taken to read this and we hope as a community of animal lovers we can all come together to help this poor girl; every animal deserves a second chance at a happy life and we regularly move heaven and earth to give them a new, loving and happy home for the rest of their days.
