Story
On 12 September, Taxi Charity volunteers Keely Allen, Micky Bannister, Claire Wellburn, Abbie Kennedy and Ellie Elston will be taking on the Thames Bridges Trek, walking 25km across the capital with one ambitious goal – to raise at least £5,000 to give other military veterans the unforgettable opportunity to fly in a Spitfire.
For many of the veterans supported by the Taxi Charity, a Spitfire isn't just an aircraft. It represents courage, sacrifice and the generation that defended our freedom. For those who served during the Second World War, seeing – and even flying in – this iconic aircraft is often the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, previous fundraising made it possible for WWII veterans Dorothea Barron and Robbie Hall to take to the skies in a Spitfire in 2024. The joy and emotion on their faces was something none of us will ever forget.
In August 2026, three more remarkable WWII veterans – Paul Terry, Alfred Cooley and Ivan Staines – will experience that same once-in-a-lifetime flight, creating memories that they and their families will treasure forever.
Now we want to make that dream come true for another deserving veteran or veterans.
Every pound you donate will help us get closer to our £5,000 target and fund another unforgettable Spitfire flight. These flights are about far more than flying; they are a way of saying thank you to the men and women who gave so much in service to our country.
Please help us reach our target. Whether you can give £5, £25 or £100, every donation brings us one step closer to hearing another veteran say, "That was the best day of my life."
Together, we can give more heroes the chance to soar in the aircraft that became a symbol of hope, courage and freedom.
Please donate today and help us make another veteran's dream come true. Thank you for your support.
