Story

Each year, we encourage people to get out and active whilst supporting the work we do for local older people. By committing to Run, Walk, Swim or whatever exercise takes your fancy, each day in the month of May, you can raise money for our charity and get fitter at your pace!

Keep it Simple - Challenge yourself to run every day in the month of May, your speed, your distance. For every day you do this, pop £1 into an achievement jar BUT if you miss a day, add £2 as a forfeit! Pay in your total via JustGiving at the end of May.

Step it up a gear- Raise sponsorship from friends and family to really boost your fundraising, we can help with sponsorship forms and promoting your achievements on social media, just get in touch.

How can your fundraising help? Following the years of uncertainty, fear and lockdown, we hope to help older people who have lost their confidence due to shielding and self isolation get back outside and into their normal routines.

A quote from *Mary...

" I haven't stepped a foot past my garden for a year now, I'm lucky I have a garden, I know there are other people in worse situations than me. I used to go to the supermarket each week and to see my friend at her house. Now the thought of getting on the bus by myself terrifies me. I'm worried I'll be wobbly and might have a fall.

Age UK Wakefield District have been visiting to help me get back on my feet, I've walked to the post office to buy stamps and hope to get to the shops with Julie soon, I couldn't do it without her"

Whether you get friends involved and make it a competition or enjoy this as a personal challenge, we appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing your photos and comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
