Story
Kevin Smith is currently taking part in the 2019-20 Clipper Round the World Race, after departing from London on 1st September 2019.
After undergoing successful cataract surgery at the Abergele Eye Unit, which enabled him to take part in the race, his aim is to raise money to purchase field equipment. The initial target is £33,000.
The Clipper Race is the world's largest ocean adventure, regarded as one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet. Over 40,000 nautical miles long, taking almost a year to complete, the non-professional teams compete on a global race-circuit. To follow the race visit clipperroundtheworld.com.
Kevin and his team, Dare To Lead, are currently in Cape Town, having already sailed 11,450 miles!
Next up is Leg 3 - "The Southern Ocean Leg", during which Kevin can expect 80 foot swells, boat speeds of well over 30 knots and wind speeds that can reach up to 70 mph! After a gruelling 5,500 miles and 23 days at sea, the beautiful, sun kissed beaches of Western Australia will be a welcome sight.
Good luck, Kevin!
