Story
We have recently taken in 3 year old French Bulldog in a terrible state. When she arrived at Gables, it was clear she was suffering from severe BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome), a painful genetic condition that affects many flat-faced breeds and makes every breath a challenge when left untreated. This can only be fixed with specialist surgeries to open her airway and then widen her nostrils.
On top of this she has a long history of horrendous skin problems causing discomfort and irritation, leaving her with infected and ulcerated areas caused by self-trauma from itching and scratching for years. This has caused alopecia on her back and abdomen. She also has painful infected and inflamed ears, with a haematoma, that require urgent veterinary treatment and possibly surgery. She desperately needs dental treatment as she has 2 back teeth with pulp exposed.
The saddest part of her story is that despite living with all these problems, she was bred and had puppies, so will have passed on all her medical issues to them.
We have already started lots of medical treatment and put her on a special anallergenic diet to help her feel more comfortable while she waits for surgery. She has been treated for fleas and worms and started on antibiotics. Her overgrown nails have been clipped and she is enjoying some medicated baths and some much needed TLC.
We now need your help to raise the funds for the extensive surgeries she desperately needs.
It is estimated it will cost at least £7,500 for the most urgent BOAS surgery, then surgery to widen her nostrils to help her breathe normally for the first time in years. She needs dental surgery and investigations into what can be done to save her ear canals, which could be surgery if no improvement is made with other treatment. There is also the cost of all her skin treatments, prescribed drugs, specialist food that she needs to stay on for life and finally she needs to be spayed so she never has to have puppies again.
Despite everything she has endured, Maggie remains gentle, loving, and desperately wants affection. She loves to be around us and is already showing us that she is so worth every penny spent on her. The cost of all her treatment is significant, but together we can change her future and turn Miserable Maggie into Marvelous Maggie.
Gables does not receive any government funding so totally rely on donations given by the public, but we are determined to help Miserable Maggie flourish.
Please donate if you can, and if you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing Maggie’s story could help reach the people who can.
