Story
Our beloved Landrovers are now over fifteen years old and are coming towards the end of their Mountain Rescue lives. Due to their age they have seen an increase in issues requiring repairs and as the Landrovers continue to age/grow older issues will only increase and in turn associated costs to enable the team to keep them operational. We recognise there will be a point when it is no longer possible to repair them so we fundraising now with the aim to be able to place the order for the first vehicle by the end of this year.
These vehicles are essential to our operation and need to be consistently reliable in order for the team to respond quickly and effectively to the many emergency calls received from both Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.
Our Landrovers carry trained volunteers and specialist equipment quickly to off road locations where other emergency service vehicles are unable to access. This enables team members to get as close as possible to the location of our casualties in turn reducing the time it takes us to get to those in need of our help.
To replace both vehicles will cost around £160,000 (£80,000 each) and we have already raised some funds, £13,500, to help towards this target but we have a long way to go.
We receive no central funding and rely entirely on generous donations and fundraising from our community, local businesses and organisations to simply maintain our operational capability and cover our yearly running costs (circa £45,000) so to raise an additional £160,000 is a large and overwhelming undertaking.
Incidents we attend can range from lower leg injuries, heart attacks to those who find themselves lost and cold anywhere in the area we cover. Roughly Littleborough to the north, Saddleworth Moor to the east, Stockport to the south and Manchester in the west, we provide search and rescue cover for an area approximately the size of 49,000 football pitches. Our team members are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing emergency search and rescue services and pre-hospital care to walkers, mountain bikers, climbers and everyone else who find themselves out enjoying our moorland, country parks and various corners of our countryside. Whether they are from Greater Manchester, visitors from out of the area or our local communities.
We appreciate not everyone can host an event or take part in a sponsored activity to help us raise money towards our replacement vehicles so the team have set up this campaign so those who would like to donate to our vehicle fundraising project can. Literally every penny donated is gratefully appreciated.
