Story
Last year, Nick and Kerstin Banham set themselves a challenge that most people would never consider. Armed with nothing more than their free bus passes, they traveled over 300 miles from Northamptonshire to Land's End using only local buses, raising awareness and funds for Harry's Pals along the way.
This year, they are back with an even bigger challenge.
On 21st September, Nick (84) and Kerstin (74) will set off from Daventry on a 95-mile walk to London. Over ten days, they will follow the Grand Union Canal towpath, navigating locks, bridges and miles of waterside paths before reaching the River Thames near Kew Bridge. And they will be doing all of this whilst wearing their backpacks full of everything they need for the ten days!
Neither Nick nor Kerstin are experienced long-distance walkers, and neither has ever attempted anything like this before. But after learning about the work of Harry's Pals and the lack of emotional support available to parents whose child has a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, they felt compelled to help.
Harry's Pals supports parents across England who have recently received the devastating news that their child has a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. At a time when families are overwhelmed by fear, uncertainty and trauma, Harry's Pals provides specialist counselling, therapy, peer support and opportunities for families to connect with others who truly understand.
Every mile Nick and Kerstin walk will help raise funds to ensure more parents can access this vital support when they need it most.
Please support their incredible challenge. Every donation, no matter the size, will help Harry's Pals continue to be there for families facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.
Thank you for helping Nick and Kerstin make a difference. To watch their video go to https://youtu.be/JvfTtAJOrBQ?si=kNvoeuTlgalkrE0t
