Story

On the 26th June 2021, Scott Murray and Seb Philp, two London Cabbies will be doing the National Three Peaks Challenge. Over a 24-hour period they will climb the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, walking 23 miles (37km) and climbing a total of 3,064 metres (10,052ft). Scott said, Seb and I would love to raise £2,000 for the Taxi Charity in what has been a tough year for the veterans the Charity supports. They havent been able to get together to mark important dates including the 75th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day last year, and their much-loved annual trips have been cancelled. The pandemic also meant that the Taxi Charitys usual fundraising opportunities were put on hold, so if you could donate, whatever the amount, we really would be very grateful. Seb said The Taxi Charity is run by volunteer licensed taxi drivers and has been supporting hundreds of veterans since 1948 offering free trips and outings. For the last twelve months, the Charity has made a huge effort to ensure veterans have received regular contact; sending out a greeting card each month, newsletters, gifts to mark the 75th anniversaries of VE & VJ Day, festive treats in stockings at Christmas. Volunteers have helped with regular phone calls, food shopping, transport to hospital appointments and funerals, and more recently taking veterans for the coronavirus injections. To fund and facilitate their work, the Charity is reliant on generous donations from members of the public, businesses and trusts.

About the charity

The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.
