Winter can be a cold and lonely time for many older people. When the weather is better, it's easier to be independent, get out, do shopping and visit friends.

When the ground freezes, it's more difficult. If you have mobility problems or have become unsteady on your feet, it makes going out dangerous and even frightening.

The cost of living crisis means that staying in and keeping warm has become unaffordable for many and that leaves them having to choose between heating their home and eating hot meals.

Isolation and despair are common feeling amongst the old and no one should be alone, especially at Christmas.
