Story

Stepping up for stillbirth; support our fundraiser for Tommys!

1 in every 250 UK babies dies before birth (stillbirth), and around the world 2 million babies are stillborn every year. This is heart-breaking for every single family, and will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

There is so much that is still unknown about stillbirth. But thanks to funding from Tommys, the largest UK charity researching causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, researchers at the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre (MFHRC), University of Manchester are helping to win the fight against baby loss. Thanks to Tommys-funded research and innovations, the Manchester Stillbirth rate has reduced by 19% from 2015 and our Rainbow clinic model (providing care for families in pregnancy after baby loss) is being rolled out nationwide.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week 2021 (9th-15th October 2021) MFHRC researchers are stepping up to raise money for Tommys in order to continue this life saving research. In just one week, we pledge to take at least one step for each one of the 2 million stillborn infants and their families. By running, walking, hopping, skipping and everything in between, our rainbow coloured teams will compete to take the most steps and to raise the most money to smash this target.

Please consider donating whatever you can; every penny will be used to support Tommys fantastic work.
