Story

Your donations to SITraN will help support their mission to find therapies and cures for some of the world's most devastating neurological diseases.

Every penny will support ongoing research to find treatments and to bring hope to patients, families and carers affected by diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

Golden Globe Race 2018

To celebrate Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s historic 1968/9 world first solo non-stop circumnavigation in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Yacht Race, a new race will be staged to mark the 50th Anniversary, starting from Falmouth on 14 June 2018. The SITraN Challenge race will be the first part of this epic adventure, taking the skippers from Falmouth to Les Sables-d’Olonne.

Like the original event, the 2018 Golden Globe Race is very simple. Depart on 1 July 2018 and sail solo, non-stop around the world, via the five Great Capes and return to Les Sables-d’Olonne. Entrants are limited to sailing similar yachts and equipment to what was available to Sir Robin in that first race. That means sailing without modern technology or the benefit of satellite based navigation aids.

SITraN

The key vision of Sheffield Institute of Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) is to develop an international centre of excellence for basic through to applied research in neuro-degenerative disease to complement the existing partnerships of academic research groups, government and charitable research funding bodies, the pharmaceutical industry and the health care sector.

SITraN is based at the University of Sheffield (exempt charity number X1089).
