'Canoeskyeathlon' means we're doing 50miles in 50hours on canoes, foot and by bike...with Skye the collie by our side! It's to raise money for a cancer unit at the Shrewsbury hospital and will take place on Friday 3rd, and Saturday 4th June 2011.
We are planning to cover the 50 miles in 50 hours, by canoeing, cycling and walking our way around Shrewsbury. Skye is our mascot on the journey, as she already has a proven track record for all three disciplines!
We are a small group( Lesley Palmer, Elaine Barton, Tina Owen, Rachael Birchall, Olivia Brown and Emily Palmer), who know a lovely lady, suffering from seconday cancer at this time. We feel strongly about doing something, however small, towards making her, and others suffering like her, more comfortable in their hospital surroundings whilst fighting the illness. The money raised will help towards a new cancer unit in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, so that patients and their families can at least have an environment which helps to relax them at a time of immense worry, stress and sadness.
This will be our route: Starting at 7 a.m on Friday 3rd June, at Montford Bridge, we'll be canoeing down the Severn, to Frankwell, to arrive hopefully around midday. From Frankwell, we will walk firstly to the railway station, through town, then via Abbey Foregate, Atcham, Wroxeter and Eyton on Severn to Cressage( by 5-6 p.m). At 7 a.m. Saturday 4th June, we resume walking, from Cressage again, via Harnage, Cound, Berrington, Boreton, Condover, Lyth Hill and Annscroft to Hook a gate( around 12 ish), where we will pick up our bikes and cycle via Nobold, the RHS, Bicton Heath, Montford Bridge, Little Ness, Great Ness and Pentre, to get to the Royal Hill hopefully by 6 p.m. That's the plan anyway!!
