I did it!
In December I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity that supports wounded servicemen and women coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. My reason for choosing this charity out of the thousands out there is simple: my boyfriend, Simon, is a Sergeant in the Royal Artillery and in 2007 he spent 6 months in Iraq. It wasn't a particularly easy time for either of us but thankfully he came home ok. Many soldiers didn't though and so I decided it was about time I did something to try and help - hence my crazy plan to climb a mountain!
It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life (mentally more than physically which surprised me) but also the most amazing! There were many tears and much (hysterical) laughter along the way but the group of people climbing with me were incredible and I have made some friends for life.
To those of you who sponsored me and have been so supportive since I signed up for this over 9 months ago thank you so much, I can't begin to put into words how grateful I am. I was climbing with a lady who's husband had been blinded during an attack while in Iraq so it made me reflect even more about my reasons for doing it. Knowing that so many people were behind me really kept me going on the night of the summit attempt.
For those of you who haven't yet sponsored me it isn't too late! My just giving page is still active
and anything you can spare will really make a difference. As a group we have raised over £96,000 for Help for Heroes so far and we would love to get to £100,000!
Thank you again for all your support!
