Liberty Rose
This is Liberty Rose!! Liberty is a twin who was born with a BRAIN TUMOUR a cancer growing inside her head that very nearly sent her blind.
We didnt find out until she was 8 months old, but we knew something was wrong when she was born, but none of the doctors would listen to us, their ignorance nearly cost Liberty her Life.
But this was only until the highly skilled team at Nottinghams QMC took control of Libertys care. Lead by Professor Grundy & neuro surgeon Miss Cartmill ,this dedicated caring team put Liberty through 7 hours of Surgery to obtain a biopsy of the cancer but sadly they could not remove any of the tumour only enough of a sample to tell us it was an optic glioma and that because of its size and location our daughter would be blind and never regain her sight.
Our world collapsed as our hearts broke.
Within days Liberty had a central line fitted to her chest and was put on a very intensive course of chemotherapy, we can never thank the team at the Qmc enough for the speed and dedication they showed in trying to save Liberty, as im writing this now it brings tears to my eyes at the love and care they showed ALL of the family!!!!!
Liberty began a hard 18 months course of Chemotherapy on the 9th of October 2007 at just 9 months old, so small and fragile, she didnt leave nottingham for 3 months her weight plumeted to that of a newborn baby weighing less than 9lbs at just 10 months old, there are pictures on the group that we still find hard to look at to this day.
Liberty needed feeding via her central line in her chest just to keep her alive, there were times we thought she wouldnt make it and watching her twin sister Destiny Mai looking up at her was one of the hardest things we have had to endure!
Liberty needed constant blood transfusions and huge cocktails of drugs just to get her through these agonising weeks. The family had to be split up which must have been such a strain for our two older children Alex (15) & Jemma (6) No family should have to suffer such heart ache.
But that was then and this is now and thanks to all the amazing staff at the hospital Liberty is still here and her signt has definately improved and is now strong in her battle against this tumour, this cancer, she has given all who have met her such courage such strength such inspiration that anyone who knows our Liberty Rose knows for sure that she is a special little lady.
Now Liberty has inspired a charity, the Liberty Rose Trust supporting Childrens Brain Tumour Research, desperatley trying to find a cure for Libby and all the other children. Brian tumours are the leading cause of death in childhood cancer yet it only receives a shocking 1% of the research budget, so please help us, Thank you
