MONA-UK is dedicated to the rescue of primates suffering in captivity. MONA has established one of the few primate rescue centres in Europe, situated in Northern Spain, where we provide primates with a permanent home where they can forage, climb and play for the rest of their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In early 2009 we visited an Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset called Monkey World. We were immediately inspired to join the mission to end the abuse & terrible suffering of primates in captivity and also help to promote the welfare, conservation, respect & understanding of primates in general. We then heard about Mona..........

The Mona Foundation was set up to end the exploitation of primates in captivity. The foundation has established a sanctuary near Girona in Spain, which provides a home where rescued chimpanzees and other primates can live in a natural environment and where people can be inspired to understand and respect wild animals.

Several months on, after successfully applying for positions as Volunteer Primate Carers at Mona, we have decided to quit our jobs, get out of the rat race, and into the ape race.

Mona is dependent on voluntary donations from members of the public and from individuals who give their time to help the project so please give as much or as little as you can. It will all help.

The photographs are of 10 of the 13 chimps Mona are currently caring for. In order, they are: Bongo, Toto, Juanito, Waty, Toni, Nico, Sara, Romie, Marco & Charly. The video is of Bongo.

Thank you so much.
