Story
On 17 June, I will be taking part in the Huntington 10k run on behalf of the Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company, who are an ‘inclusive’ organisation which means that everyone is welcome from age 5, no matter what capability, disability or background – no-one is turned away. My aim is to raise much needed funds for The Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company, a group which my daughter attends.
They work as a team, utilising the strengths and weaknesses of their members to create a positive effect. The members get so much from this organisation and they all come alive when they perform, it is an absolute pleasure to witness.
For me personally, this run means a great deal. Just two and a half years ago I faced up to my own mortality when I was told to ‘Diet or Die’ at just 47 years of age. I weighed in at over 21 stones, had dangerously high blood pressure, my asthma was in free fall and I couldn’t even walk to the top of a flight of stairs, unless I stopped and caught my breath. Today, aged almost 50 and ten stones lighter, I am running the Huntingdon 10k course, thanks to Slimming World’s weight loss plan and regular exercise.
I have never run 10k at an event with other runners before, have never run on surfaces other than asphalt and, as I believe an event should to be worthy of the sponsorship, this will certainly be a challenge for me!
Please sponsor me if you are able to, thank you
