I am doing this race as part of Team Georgia, this is their story:
Team Georgia first did Race for Life in 2013.
We came about because in 2011 my dad, Sam passed away having fought Oesophageal Cancer. 6 weeks after this, we were hit with the news that Georgia, my 5yr old niece had Stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma, the most aggressive form of childhood cancer there is.
During 2011 and 2012 Georgia underwent grueling treatment and when we did Race for Life in 2013, it fell on my dad’s 65th birthday and also we were given the amazing news that Georgia had beaten the cancer. This made the 2013 Race for Life very special and we were very proud when Georgia was asked to start the race!!
We were asked by people if they could join Team Georgia, and it went from there, we were joined by lots of friends and family and raised a lot of money too.
Team Georgia was such a success that there was no way it was only going to be a one off!!!
So 2014 came and again Team Georgia did Race for Life, and again, we raised lots of money for Cancer Research UK.
Sadly in August 2014 we were told that Georgia’s cancer had returned and she started further chemotherapy. Despite this, Georgia showed tremendous strength, she was always smiling and happy and full of attitude and cheekiness!!!
In 2015 we again did Race for Life and we were so proud to see Georgia start the race again!! Despite still having Chemotherapy treatment, Georgia took part and completed the race along with all her friends and family in Team Georgia, the support was amazing.
On the 16th December 2015, after a long fight, Georgia passed away holding Mummy's hand, she was aged just 9.
The pain of losing Georgia is unimaginably hard for her Mum and Dad, and for all those who had the privilege of being part of her life. We want people to remember Georgia for the amazing little girl she was. Georgia leaves a massive hole in our hearts, but we take comfort in knowing that she is with her Grandad and big brother, Jamie, and is no longer in pain or suffering.
Georgia loved nothing more than helping others and she is a total inspiration, showing us to be brave, even when you really really don’t want to be.
So, we are heading into 2016 and Team Georgia are once again going to take part in Race for Life.
This year it will be on Sunday 5th June 2016, 11am at Pennington Flash Country Park, Leigh.
All of us know first-hand how bad Cancer is and this race is for all our family and friends who have been taken by this horrible disease. We hope by doing this race, we can help raise money so that we can help others win their battle.
Team Georgia is set up and waiting for people to join, the code you need to join the group is HV4574.
We would love as many people as possible to join us, not only to raise money for Cancer Research UK, but to remember Georgia, the best girl ever xx
