In 1992 we received the devastating news that my mother had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. You don’t really know at this point what this actually means, but you do associate the word "Cancer" with everything bad. In 1992 the prognosis wasn’t as good as it is today. However after successful treatment, she went into remission for ten years, although she always had to take drugs to help her condition. These years were very happy years. Ten years later, the Cancer sadly returned and this time it had gone into the bones as well and another battle began. The next six years were periods of undertaking different Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy to try to keep the Cancer in remission. Some were successful and she again had many periods of happiness and enjoyed life to the full during these breaks in treatment. She was so positive throughout the illness and fought the illness right to the end. Sadly she passed away peacefully on the 3 July, 2008 with her family around her.
We were grateful for these 16 years. If we had been told in 1992 that it was going to be 16 years we would have been so happy – but of course you always want more – and that is what we are trying to do by raising money for Against Breast Cancer, so that others can benefit from the ultimate cure for this illness.
Trefor and I have been invited by the Against Breast Cancer charity to join their team in the London Marathon in 2009. However we have been set a very large target to raise money for the Charity as well as the challenge of getting fit to run the race as neither of us have ever run that far before (and probably never will again!!).
Please help us raise money for Against Breast Cancer by sponsoring us in the London Marathon. Your sponsorship may be the difference in finding a cure for Breast Cancer and the research carried out may benefit sufferers with other types of Cancers.
