**The Official Bit**

In September I will volunteer for 7 months on a development programme in Burkina Faso. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to work in partnership with international charities and local organisations to make a difference where it is needed most.

I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Burkina Faso, on a project that supports marginalised women and people with disabilities to understand their rights – and put them into action – in order to change their own lives for the better.

ICS works with communities and in-country project partners that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

I need to raise £800 for International Service, one of the development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the communities where they work. **My Two Cents**

I believe in fighting for the human rights of women and people with disabilities because I believe in justice: I find it impossible to accept that the circumstances of a person’s birth (location, medical condition, gender…) determine how well they can live. 

The work of this one organisation may be a small contribution, but it is a contribution – working to support these groups in putting their rights into action, but also in creating sustainable change so that their rights can be better protected in the future. 

This programme is not being run for the sake of it: it only works with groups that have requested help from ICS. 

For these reasons, I am proud to be able to fundraise for International Service ICS. 

Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in the countries where ICS works, so go ahead and dig deep folks!
