World class scientists at the Marie Curie Research Institute are investigating how cancer develops to find better ways of treating the disease in the future.

In loving memory of Mary O'Mahoney

Since loosing my Mum to Cancer in August 2005, I have felt compelled to do my bit!

After being so inspired by the AVIVA Breakthrough Breast Cancer weekend in 2006, when I along with 1550 other men and women walked 60k around London over 2 days.

The experience was one that will remain with me always, I had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people, we shared stories and our different reasons for taking part, there was laughter and tears, it was hard work and very emotional, but it was truly amazing.

So with this in mind I have taken on a new challenge, this time to trek the Great Wall of China, hmm a little extreme! Yeah maybe, ‘Has she gone mad’ probably

But I am so passionate about the cause; I want to raise as much money as I can to help. Marie Curie offers such great care to those who are terminally ill. Please help me by sponsoring me, no matter how big or small every penny counts (although BIG donations would be nice – Thank you

Now to tell you a little about the trip, it’s trekking (something I have never done before) so the heels are off and these hideous hiking boots take their place Ohhh!

We shall be trekking along the great wall for 7 days; the temperature during the day is anticipated to be 20-30°C rather warm I think! There will be lots and lots of steps to climb and we can expect steep ascents and descents. Then there are the sections that have sheer drops close to the walled edge OMG!!!

At night we shall be camping in local villages it’s expected to be -5 – 5°C Oh my, surely that’s to cold to be in a tent Brrr!!!!!

So there are a few little luxuries I will have to live without whist in China, these being, the hair straighners, the shower, hot running water, and wait for it ……The Toilet!!!! Yep that’s right, apparently there are no toilet facilities during the day (whilst trekking) yes its official I have gone mad lol.
