HeLLo!!
Thanks for taking the time to have a peek at my page : ) I'm running the HASTINGS HALF in March & the GREAT NORTH RUN in September to raise money for The Matthew Project & would really appreciate your support.
A full marathon was a bit ambitious considering I've not ran for a while, so two halves will have to make a whole!
Those of you who know me well will be aware that The Matthew Project was my first real taster of working in the field of substance misuse. The Project is AMAZING! They help a great number of people across Norfolk & couldn't possible achieve the positive outcomes they do without the support of others.
The vast majority of people who use drugs (legally and illegally!) come to no physical or psychological harm, and may well feel that they have benefitted from the relaxation, diversion or temporarily improved social, intellectual or physical performance that can be afforded by some drugs.
There are, however, very serious risks. And, increasingly during a time of economic uncertainty, many people seek escapism and solidarity in their unified use of illicit drugs. Whilst many people do not go on to develop ongoing problems and addiction, some do. Figures suggest that at their lowest there are between 250,000 and 320,000 problematic drug users in the UK. Perhaps most worryingly, as the price of an ecstasy tablet can be as low as 20-60 pence, and a gram of cocaine as little as £35-40 drugs have become increasingly more accessible to young people. From experience as a drugs worker, children as young as 11/12 years old are finding themselves addicted to heroin and crack cocaine. I find this harrowing.
Organisations such as The Matthew Project are key to tackling the issues related to problematic drug use. They not only work with adults and children, but also those affected by drugs and alcohol misuse. If you've got the time take a look at their website for further information:

I'm not asking you to dig deep>just whatever loose change you might be able to spare would be marvelous.
Thanks!
Caroline
